In June of 1953, sixty-five years ago, Montclair Ambulance Unit officially began operations with a discharge from Montclair Community Hospital (seen in the rendering above). Since that first job on a sunny June 20th, MAU has responded to over 185,000 requests for service.

MAU was actually formed in December of 1952 when a group of Montclair residents, concerned for the health and safety of their friends and neighbors, joined together to form Montclair Ambulance Unit.

The first meeting of the Montclair Ambulance Unit was gaveled into session by newly appointed chairman Lawrence W. Sanders. Alongside Saunders at this first meeting were fellow Trustees Robert Cluthe, Donald Hobart, Henry Colleary, Charles Lowry, Fred Scharfenberg, B. Vincent Harrison and Duane Minard, Jr.

While the times have changed since that first night sixty-five years ago, Montclair Ambulance Unit continues to provide professional, responsive, patient-first care and dedicated to being a community based, industry leading, emergency medical service organization.

Frozen in Time.....

Montclair, NJ - Organizers for Montclair Ambulance Unit's Community Outreach Education Programs are in the process of setting up fall sessions for some of our most popular programs.
