Montclair, NJ - The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) was instrumental in establishing EMS Week when President Gerald Ford declared November 3 – 10, 1974 as the first “National Emergency Medical Services Week" to celebrate the contributions of EMS to public safety and healthcare.
ACEP began collecting and distributing ideas and information for EMS Week in the early 1980’s. Today 25,000 EMS Week Planning Guides are distributed free of charge to EMS services, fire departments, rescue squads, volunteer groups, and emergency departments across the country.
EMS Week 2017 will take place May 21-27 with the 24th dedicated as EMS for Children Day highlighting the special needs for taking care of children.
In 2011 Montclair Ambulance Unit celebrated EMS Week with a wide variety of town wide events that was highlighted by an open house of our Walnut Street HQ.
Montclair residents toured the facility and took part in a Q & A session, blood pressure screenings and a pet first aid/CPR class with MAU Lt. Michael Craig.
EMS Week is a week long series of events celebrating EMS's contribution to public safety and healthcare and EMS providers across the nation.
EMS Week is a joint effort of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of EMTs along with over 25,000 EMS agencies from across the United States.
