In 1952 a group of Montclair residents, concerned for the safety and well being of their friends and neighbors, joined together to form the Montclair Ambulance Unit.
Over sixty years later, the dedication to the residents of Montclair stands as strong as it did when the first meeting was gaveled into session in December of 1952 at the Montclair Municipal Building.
MAU mourns loss of former EMT, Crew Chief
Montclair Ambulance Unit Special Operations is monitoring the potential blizzard that will effect the area beginning as early as Monday morning and continuing through late Tuesday night.
Forecasters are predicting 1'-2' of snow that could bring the region to a standstill with near white out or white out conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for the Montclair area from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. They are also encouraging people to begin preparations now.

Man sentenced to 13 years in prison for killing Montclair EMT and patient in crash
A former Elizabeth resident was sentenced to 13 years in prison last week for causing the deaths of two people in a 2012 car crash, including Montclair resident and EMT Keith Chipepo. James Sterling, 30, also known as James Megget, was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
According to a release from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Sterling was originally indicted for aggravated manslaughter, eluding, aggravated assault, vehicle homicide, driving with a suspended license and causing death while driving with a suspended license. He has six prior felony convictions for aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, possession of narcotics and weapons offenses.Sterling pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated manslaughter in July.
According to the release, on Nov. 19, 2012, Sterling's car hit an ambulance, setting off a multi-vehicle crash in Newark. Two people in the ambulance died from their injuries: Chipepo, 30, and patient Martha Conley, 58, of Newark.
Montclair Ambulance Unit honored Chipepo, an EMT with Grand Medical Transport, taking part in the Honor Guard for his funeral.
