On September 11, 2011 officials from Essex County dedicated an area of the Essex County September 11th Memorial at Eagle Rock Reservation to the EMS providers that made the ultimate sacrifice during the September 11 terrorist attacks and those who responded that day and in the months to follow.
EMTs and Paramedics from all other New Jersey and the entire tri-state area responded to Ground Zero, as well as, casualty collection points to treat and comfort the survivors.
In the months that followed, EMS agencies, fire departments and law enforcement, joined by volunteers from across the nation, labored for months to clear the site and search for remains.
As we mark the seventeenth anniversary of the horrific day we rededicate ourselves and our duty to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"The amazing part of the entire timeframe is that every day you wake up, it seems like only yesterday. I have quite a vivid recollection of the events of the day. More importantly, I remember the events that transpired after. For many of us, September 11, 2001, was just the first day of a long and exhausting time frame in which our lives were changed forever." Seventeen years ago, on a sunny September morning, our nation and our world changed forever. While that day seems so long ago, it lives on everyday in the hearts and minds of those left behind to honor the fallen.
It lives on in the work done by every EMT, firefighter police officer and soldier who puts on a uniform in the service of their community and their nation.
Montclair Ambulance Unit honors not only those who ran toward danger but those who could not escape it on September 11, 2001. Godspeed.
We especially honor the Montclair residents who perished on 9/11 including Michael L. Collins, Caleb Arron Dack, Emeric J. Harvey, Scott M. Johnson. Howard L. Kestenbaum, Robert M. Murach, David Lee Pruim, Ron Ruben and Michael Stewart.
